Mud agitators are also called drilling fluids mixers in solids control system, it is used to agitate and mix drilling fluids, preventing drilling fluids solids depositing in mud tank to ensure drilling fluid  property stability and the mixing evenly.

Mud agitator is mainly used to make the solid particles suspended in the drilling fluid. Cuttings are the main components of the harmful solids, they must be suspended, and then injected them into the desander, desilter and drilling fluid centrifuge to achieve goals. Useful solids, such as all kinds of aggravating material (hematite powder, barite powder) and a small amount of bentonite, etc. also need evenly be suspended  to make the drilling fluid density and other properties keep stable.

Therefore, it is required that the mud agitator can work reliably to avoid the phenomenon of solid phase precipitation.

In oil drilling fluid solid control system, presently mechanical agitator is used widely, some teams also use hydraulic agitation.

The mechanical agitator is composed of a driving device, a stirring shaft and a stirring impeller.

Different agitators have different functions, such as planetary type mixer, pipe type mixer and swing type agitator.

Planetary agitator rotation is by rotating around its own rotation and around the center of the tank the “revolution”. These two kinds of motion make the liquid in mud tank in both vertical and horizontal. Strong convection make the solids are not easy to precipitate.

The pipe mixer can transfer liquid continuously and the liquid is stirred in the conveying process.

Since with small volume and stirring evenly, it consumes less power.

The rocking type agitator is similar with the planetary agitator on their functions. Angle fixed type agitator used for a long time, it is easy to produce a large number of bottom pile. The swing type agitator, due to the stirring of the continuous cycle increase the flow of liquid and irregular flow to prevent solid depositing at tank bottom.

Mud agitators features

The working principle of mud agitators are very simple. We use motor as the power of rotation and the gear box to reduce the rotation speed for better agitation and safe performance. The gear box and motor can be connected directly or by coupling. And the agitator can be fixed on tank horizontally or vertically.

The speed of agitator can be 60 rpm or 30 rpm that’s dependent on the demand and coming from gear box reduce ratio.

Furthermore, the impeller and shaft is also flexible to configure. As there are many different mud tanks and requirements from different clients.
