Solids control system operation tips during well drilling

Solids control system(drilling mud shale shaker, vacuum degasser, desander, desilter, drilling mud cleaner, drilling mud centrifuge) is an indispensable equipment system in oil exploration. In order to exert their work performance as much as possible, we need to know related operation notices about every equipment of solids control system

Attentions for drilling mud shale shaker

  1. The drilling fluid from wellhole should be firstly purified by drilling mud shale shaker, shale shaker with 100% utilization rate.
  2. Under normal drilling displacement, the flow area on screen surface of the drilling fluid shale shaker should be maintained at 75 ~ 80%.
  3. According to the lithology of strata, drilling speed, the depth of the well and drilling fluid types, adjust grid of shale shaker screen in time and choose screen with finer mesh as far as possible.

Attentions for vacuum degasser

  1. Desander, desilter (or drilling mud cleaner) capacity should reach to over 150% based on drilling maximum cyclic displacement
  2. Before using equipment, open the circulating line ball valve between the separator and the vacuum pump, Pour moderate water into vacuum pump to avoid vacuum rotating without water causing mechanical seal burnt.
  3. First starting main motor make impeller connecting with motor keep rotating at high speed, then start vacuum pump. The steps on turning off equipment is against staring steps, first turn off motor of vacuum pump, and then close up main motor to ensure equipment work normally.
  4. If equipment haven’t been used for long time, should discharge water out from vacuum degasser and water gas separator.
  5. Discharge waste gas far away from jobsite to avoid hurting people.

Desander, desilter (or mud cleaner) utilization

  1. desander, desilter or mud cleaner capacity should reach to over 80% based on drilling maximum cyclic displacement.
  2. If drilling mud viscosity is too high, should adjust the drilling fluid viscosity and shearing force to ensure desander, desilter or mud cleander work normally.
  3. Indefinitely inspect equipment and keep a reasonable difference value for desander, desilter or mud cleaner underflow density and fluid density. The 0.3~0.6g/cm3 is reasonable difference value for desander, 0.3~0.42g/cm3 is for desilter or mud cleaner.

Solids control decanter centrifuge operation tips

  1. when drilling mud density is less than 1.25g/cm3, the running time of centrifuge should occupy over 50% of total cycle time.
  2. Before weighting drilling mud, it is appropriate to use drilling mud centrifuge over two hours.
  3. In complex deep well, super deep well operation, we can equip one low speed centrifuge and one high speed centrifuge so as to remove colloidal particle and recover weighted materials to reduce liquid emissions.
