Applications and maintenance of submersible slurry pump

A submersible slurry pump is a type of pump which is contained in an air tight sealed motor which is close to the pump body. Mud and slurries containing hard solids not larger than 3 mm (1/8”) are frequently pumped by a slurry pump. The slurry pump divided into horizontal and vertical type.

Applications of slurry pump

Aipu submersible slurry pumps are mainly used for environmental protection, new type building materials, coal washing, municipal projects, thermal power generation, coal gas coking plant, refinery, steel mills, mining, paper making, cement plant, food products factory and other fields to perform pumping of thick oil, oil residue, dirty oil, mud, mortar, running sand and other liquids from the municipal sewerage. It is also suitable for pumping liquids with silt particle and corrosive liquid.

The normal submersible length is 1.3m/1.5m, customized length is available. There is no bearing or gland seal between impeller and pump body, so there is no need to always maintain the slurry pump and it can resist high temperature, the slurry pump is the ideal centrifugal pump for feeding to decanter centrifuge, and feeding from mud pit for to the shale shakers on the mud system, it can also be used as feeding pump for desander and desilter.

Maintenance of slurry pump

The maintenance of submersible pumps is quite difficult. Usually, there are seals which prevent the fluids from getting inside the motor to cause a short circuit. However, care must be taken with the kind of fluids that is being pumped. Different fluids react differently.

Hot water and flammable liquid must be handled quite carefully. The hot water can easily damage the parts of the motor due to its heat, while flammable liquids can easily catch fire and cause a lot of damage to the internal parts of the pump.

When the liquid pumped out are both hot and flammable, the electric supply used to run the motor may often heat the fluids and cause the motor to burn or explode.

Thus, special parts are used to drain such fluids. This leads to heavy maintenance costs for submersible pumps.

Also the motor often lies completely submerged under the fluids that is being pumped out. So, damage can be easily caused to the motor and the outer parts. This also adds to the maintenance costs of submersible pumps.
